The highway B proposed park master plan has been approved by the city of St. Charles. Overall, the plan aims to utilize roughly 100 acres adjacent to the new high school at the intersection of Highway 94 and Highway B. It is an exciting development in the region—one that further identifies the area as a sought-after community for a family-oriented and healthy lifestyle.
The park is part of a broader 2,600 acre development plan by the city. The city aims to have an “amenity-driven” corridor that will encourage further economic growth in the region. Some of the amenities in the approved masterplan include a 10-12 acre lake for water-based recreation, multiple sports facilities, nature trails and an indoor field house. With the growth of sports in the area, the city is embracing the region as one that encourages “sports tourism” and the adoption of up-and-coming sports, such as cricket and pickleball.
Beyond recreational activities, the complex has space for food trucks and open spaces to accommodate seasonal events. Gazebos and other community structures will also be located throughout the park—enabling residents and visitors opportunities to host family gatherings or group picnics.
Designed to be extremely accessible, nearby residents will be able to utilize the numerous nature trails, both paved and unpaved—including a 1.5 mile perimeter loop trail for pedestrians, runners and cyclists. A highlight of the trails system is a boardwalk over the storm drainage area, giving folks a look at the unique wetland type landscape that inhabits the North 94 region.
For those that like to bike, the area is proposing a complete bike park with both BMX style and pump ramp opportunities. This would create the only dedicated bike park within the city of St. Charles. This, coupled with the nearby Katy Trail, Lakeside 370 bike path, Boschert Greenway and Orchard Farm country roads, will make the North 94 and 370 Valley one of the top destinations in the region for cycling. Other amenities will include an 18-hole disc golf area, a nature education zone and multiple playground structures.
The $64 million plan is currently looking at various funding strategies that will include city funds, strategic partners and grants.
